Fed up
You know what the Yearly Restart is, right?
It’s where you start the year in the same place (or worse) than you did last year.
No noticeable results - no fitter … No healthier…
Still look exactly the same (maybe puffier and a little grayer and/or creasier ).
Weary and frustrated from spinning your wheels …
Why does this perennially happen to many folks?
Here’s what I’ve noticed over the last 30 years:
They bite off more than they can chew .
They obsess over things like “the Perfect Programs” ...
You know the ones - the kind that have all the essential movements in every workout… Meticulously scheduled ... Carefully calibrated ...
They eventually burn out physically and emotionally…
And the craziness of life swallows them up like the Lightning Sand did to Wesley and Buttercup in the Fire Swamp.
So, my friend, if you find yourself in this situation (again), how do you avoid it
Simple.
Take it easy .
Pick the simplest program that you are absolutely sure you can do - and do it.
(This is why I’m such a Big Advocate of Streamlined plans… Not a lot of moving parts… Easy to start and maintain …)
Who cares how “ dull” it is?
It’s certainly not more check here boring than being on the Merry-Go-Round of Shame every year.
“ The plan this year: [FILL IN BLANK WITH SAME OL’ RESOLUTION] again...”
Pick your Minimalist / Underachiever program of choice.
Set aside 3 20-minute blocks a week on your calendar.
And get to work.
But not too hard - you’re an “ easy does it pro” this year, remember?!
And then, 365 days from now, bask in your glory as you look upon -
Your training log that’s filled with incrementally larger numbers …
Your lighter KBs that are now collecting dust and your heavier bells are finally covered in chalk…
And maybe most importantly - you’re finally seeing changes in your body…
Improved tone …
Snugger sleeves on your tees…
Bags pants and belts fitting comfortably on that last hole…
Remember - say “NO” to the Annual Reboot .
